Cubenen Gardens: Befriend (Final demo!)

Forum for submitting game booths for arcINDIE Expo 2025. Deadline for game booth submission is November 8th!
Forum rules
IMPORTANT
For those submitting a demo booth to either event this November you must also submit the promotional material form. Failing to do so may result in your booth being rejected after the submission deadline.

Submission guidelines
- Projects considered by staff to be asset flipped are not permitted. This does not apply to kit bashing.
- Projects must be submitted by the teams who developed them. Projects which have been submitted without developer involvement will be considered stolen and will removed.
- Plagiarised projects will be removed.
- Please avoid submitting rom hacks which do not significantly alter the base game and if so please submit them as a patch for the base game.
- The contents of your submission should be safe for work. projects depicting hate speech, or sexual content will be removed.
- Scratch and Roblox games are not permitted.
- Do not submit spite projects.

Expect a playthrough to take 60-90 minutes.

Cubenen Gardens: Befriend is a story-driven indie RPG created with RPG Maker MZ.

The Gardens is a world inhabited by cartoon animals and friendly cube people known as cubenen. This city is separated into seven districts, atop a concrete island, in a sea of ink.
This world is also home to hostile monsters, abstract and strange in design. They manifest where hope has been lost, and terrorize citizens.

You play as Michael, a kangaroo scientist and inventor from the Tech District. They have a lifelong goal of making monsters less of a threat to society. And their research takes them to the abandoned offices of the Mall District to test a theory regarding how monsters relate to the memories of the deceased. Things go well, but then they get caught up in a corporate nightmare. Slowly breaking them down and leaving them desperately searching for a way to escape.

This is not Michael's first outing at H.T.I., but it will likely be their last.
For 2025, I'm doing something funny and submitting just Chapter 7. You will be given little to no story context to what's going on, though you will be given directions on what to do, so don't worry too much about being lost. Just sit back and enjoy the writing and combat!
On top of it being comedic to submit just a late-game part of the adventure to an event, this chapter also features a pretty ambitious dungeon I would like more feedback on. I'd greatly appreciate you all giving me your thoughts on the sodden and corrupted Locker Room for when I might design large-scale dungeons like this in future games!

We hope you all have enjoyed having Michael at H.T.I. these past years. It's been a ton of fun!
Stay tuned for next year for hopefully a demo for a new original project. Set in the same world, but a few years prior, in a new district, and with a new protagonist.
