Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Gear Shift(previously known as Sonic 2 SMS/GG 16-Bit) or it's alternative JP subtitle: Running for Miles, is a re-imagining of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Master System and Game Gear, updated with 16-Bit graphics inspired by those of the likes of Sonic 2 and Sonic CD.
The goal of this project to bring out the best aspects of the original game, while correcting major issues and bringing some new ideas to the table.

I'm really interested in this! I like the Master System version of Sonic 2 a lot, and I'm glad someone is remaking it!

Hey, there. this project looks utterly gorgeous and I would like to play it, but unfortunately, I'm struggling to get it running on my Windows 7 computer, despite being able to run the previous demo on it. Is there a way I can fix this? Sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your time. Have a lovely day.

Hi, programmer for the game here
This demo was compiled with the latest GameMaker runtime (2024.14). Unfortunately, it doesn't support Windows 7, so the game will not work on your computer. The older runtime from last year's demo may have still supported Windows 7 back then, but YoYoGames ultimately dropped support for the OS in their later runtimes. Sorry for the inconvenience!

I like what I see. Seems very standard for good 2D Sonic design and I hope that keeps up through the rest of the game. ...Plus what seems like some fixes for that deranged Sky High design, which I didn't really have any problems with in the original game but everyone else probably hates with a burning passion (and represents a sharp difficulty spike in a number of ways)

Is there somewhere I can get in touch with some suggestions to tweak a few songs? Soundtrack's pretty good but I noticed a few bits here and there in a couple songs that might be able to be improved

Also booooo to GameMaker changes, cause people still love Win7

Is there any chance we can play it on the Genesis/Mega Driver emulator?

Nope, this is a PC game, you can't run it on a mega drive emulator

The fangame is pretty good. Continue that!

This is a message with no short sentences, since I'm expanding the thread to be more consistent to what I'm giving as like feedback.

Hey cheez. I created the music for the save menu, Sky High, and Green Hills, as well as the Team Supernova and Chaos Emerald jingles. I'd love to hear some suggestions for potential improvements! I'm projectfm on Discord, or you can message me at @projectfm.space on Bluesky.

Darn it. That's all right. Maybe I'll be able to find a workaround somehow. Thank you very much for the response and have a lovely day.
